To the West of Marmaris is the Datca peninsula; renowned for it's natural beauty and climate and for it's many bays and stunning coves - many only accessible by boat.
The Eastern end of the peninsula, where it joins the mainland is is known as "the place where fish leap across" because of the narrow isthmus at the end of the fjord-like "Bencik Cove"
The far Western end is the location of the ancient Greek city of Knidos, famed for it's statue of Aphrodite - the first naked female statue in history (around 350 BC).
Datca town is a sleepy, picturesque fishing town with a charming, unspoilt feel.
There are numerous waterside restaurants to choose from after exploring the narrow streets.
Market day is Saturday.
