The beautiful and sophisticated town is set in a breathtaking landscape at the foot of the Taurus mountains.
Narrow streets that twist down to the harbour are lined with old whitewashed villas with shuttered windows and small speciality shops and restaurants.
It is renowned in Turkey for it's numerous roof terrace restaurants and bars which offer unrivalled views of the town, sea and stars.
Patara beach - the longest beach in the Mediterranean, and breeding ground of the endangered Loggerhead turtle, lies to the West of Kalkan. It is a 15 minute journey to the 18km stretch of soft golden sand which is regularly featured as one of the Mediterranean's most beautiful and unspoilt beaches. Market day is Thursday.
